Dr Richard Rogers:
Hair Restoration Since 1996
Hair Restoration Since 1996
Dr Richard Rogers has performed hair transplant surgery for nearly 30 years, and his career has tracked the development of modern hair restoration almost from the start.
He began as a GP with a special interest in dermatology. In 1996, while studying for his MRCP, he took up hair transplant work intending to do it for six months. He found his speciality instead, and has focused on hair restoration ever since.
A career that spans every technique
Dr Rogers was among the first of a new generation of doctors to train in strip micrograft surgery, the technique that replaced older punch grafting. He went on to become an early adopter of FUE in the UK and of the trichophytic closure, a technique that makes FUT donor scars far less visible.
Many newer doctors train only in FUE and never learn FUT, which limits the options they can offer. Dr Rogers performs both to a high standard and chooses the right technique for each patient, rather than the one he happens to know.
Natural hairlines and repair surgery
Dr Rogers is known for hairlines that look natural up close, with the slight irregularity and varied angles of real hair rather than a straight, uniform edge. He is also one of relatively few UK doctors experienced in repairing older transplants, including punch graft results and visible strip scars.
A surgeon who's been a patient
Dr Rogers understands hair loss from the patient's chair as well as the surgeon's. He started with minoxidil and finasteride, then had an FUT transplant in 2007 and FUE in 2015. He's open about his own results, and it shapes how he talks patients through what to expect.
